This miniature uses interference acrylics over black gesso — the surface shifts and breathes depending on the viewer’s angle, which gives the piece a kinetic quality. The horizontal knife strokes create the sensation of slow-moving water lit by faint phosphorescence. My limited palette works strongly here: emerald, teal, and soft blue carry the eye in a quiet ebb and flow.
The proportions of the 9 x 3 format amplify the sense of a panoramic fragment — a moment caught rather than staged. It feels like a meditation on motion, light, and depth, with just enough texture to hold the surface without overwhelming it.
This is an early work (2017) and is a strong example of my acrylic knife work: gestural, atmospheric, and already pointing toward the sensibilities that now define your minis.
