I now consider my 10 x 8 in. miniatures—part of an ongoing exploration of intimacy within vastness. Painted entirely with a knife, it layers oil on treated masonite to evoke a polar stillness where atmosphere and light blur into suggestion. The deep indigos and muted blues speak less to place than to a state of being. What might first appear as a frozen expanse or sea under moonlight becomes, upon reflection, something inward: a suspended moment between knowing and unknowing.
The horizontal motion invites quiet contemplation. There's no clear focal point—no figure, no narrative—only form, texture, and restraint. This is intentional. I want to let the absence speak. Let the light emerge where it wants to. Let emotion form where the surface recedes.
I often return to these minimalist landscapes not to describe the world, but to touch something underneath it—something quieter. This piece stands as a meditation on stillness, the weight of silence, and the beauty of unspoken things.
