Azur Break is a study in contrasts—texture against light, bold colour against subtle structure. Painted in oil, 8 x 10 inches, on treated Masonite, it was created entirely with a knife, allowing thick impasto to define both mood and terrain. The surface becomes a statement in itself.
Three horizontal bands carry the composition: a bright, snow-like foreground, a textured middle ground of reds and greens, and a deep, saturated sky. There’s immediacy here, but also a search for balance between spontaneity and structure, between gesture and atmosphere.
I’m drawn to how texture can carry narrative. In Azur Break, impasto doesn’t just describe the landscape—it becomes it.
