My work serves as a record of personal and conceptual evolution. For several years, my practice focused on Ataraxia, the pursuit of a serene and quiet calmness. The Ipseity collection marks a significant shift away from that silence. It explores the core of individual identity and the weight of the human spirit.
In these paintings, I present monumental forms suspended within fields of intense, lateral motion. These structures represent the self. They are surrounded by turbulent blue and white strokes created with a palette knife to signify the external forces that attempt to erode our center. Despite this pressure, the masses remain immovable. They are powered by the Ochre Engine, a small but vital flare of light representing the internal will and memory. The lush blue/greens bring a calmness to the scene. And the grey rock belies the structure.
At 75, I approach my studio in Montreal with the same discipline I brought to my careers in the Quebec health system and the financial sector. This collection is a study of resilience. It proves that our ability to withstand external chaos is entirely dependent on the strength of our inner light. Presented in a floating frame.
