Shoreline Rhapsody
Oil on Masonite, 10 x 8 in.
I painted this piece with a palette knife, layering atmosphere and texture until the scene felt alive. What emerged is something between representation and abstraction—a rhapsody of water, light, and air. The moody sky holds much of the emotion: restless and full of movement, shaped by the immediacy and sculptural quality of knife work. Raised surfaces catch the light in shifting ways, creating a quiet rhythm. The shoreline grounds the piece with earthy greens and browns that offset the cool sky above.
If there’s a narrative in Shoreline Rhapsody, it’s one of quiet contemplation—a moment before the storm, or just after. I don’t aim for polish so much as presence; that rawness often feels truer than a perfect finish. This painting is part of my ongoing journey into the edges of place and self
