Water’s Edge Nagisa (渚) Oil on treated cardboard matting with clear gesso 12 x 8 in.
This work represents my first exploration of Japanese-inspired brush painting, created in oil on acid-free treated cardboard. The inspiration arose from a chance encounter where I saw a disciplined practitioner of painting in ink, and the restraint intrigued me. I sought to translate that spirit into oil — blending Eastern quietude with my own expressive approach.
The brush marks carry a meditative slowness, in contrast to the speed of my palette knife work. Yet the underlying theme of Ipseity remains, selfhood, the acceptance of change, and the dialogue between memory and perception. At seventy-five, I trust that collectors will find in this work a balance of familiarity and renewal. This is one of four that I will be posting. You may want to acquire any one of these first four.
