I painted this piece thinking about a dune's particular kind of memory, or rather its absence of one. Wind reshapes it constantly, and yet it remains recognisably itself, holding its form without holding its history. That felt close to something I keep returning to in my work: what persists beneath constant change, and what simply exists without needing to account for itself.
The sky here asks little of the eye, a pale expanse where light and weather blur rather than announce themselves. Against that stillness, the dune rises softly from the left, its edge allowed to blur between sand and mist rather than meet at a hard line.
Foliage gathers at the base and climbs the slope in scattered, deliberate strokes, a small persistence of life against so much quiet. This piece sits within a body of work built on close observation and patient mark-making, where restraint carries more than colour ever could on its own.
